I’m so proud of my boys. ECBC’s (in)famous “Chef Bob” asked my father-in-law and my husband to help feed Charleston’s homeless on a freezing cold Saturday morning. Chad thought it would be a good idea to take Colin and Davis. The thought of my small boys running around among hundreds of homeless people didn’t sound safe to me but I knew the boys would be in good hands. I stayed home with Miles but I wish I could have seen them! Our church was participating in an annual event called Convoy of Hope, which seeks to minister to the needy. They provide food, bags of groceries, haircuts, medical services, etc. Our boys were tireless. They were gracious and accepting to the homeless, greeted them with smiles, and told them about Jesus. Chad told me that he saw many hardened people turn into gentle spirits when approached by our boys.
An event like this makes me realize how very much we have, even in “tough” economic times. Colin (7) told me how several of the needy people were wearing garbage bags to keep warm and dry. I’m thankful that they got to serve the downtrodden and they learned from the experience. I’m thankful to live in a city that cares about those less fortunate. And I’m glad to attend a spirit-led church (East Cooper Baptist Church) that takes the Bible at its word and understands that we are to care for our brothers and sisters who need our help.
Matthew 25:40 ~Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.
