Saturday was a beautiful day. After all the cold weather, I related to my northern friends and got excited that the temperature was going to be in the mid-50s! We loaded everyone up and headed to The Center for the Birds of Prey in Awendaw (about 20 minutes from home). We’ve already gotten more than our money’s worth from our Be A Tourist in Your Own Town passes and are enjoying every minute of it. In fact, it will probably become a January tradition. I love that idea since January is usually a bit of a downer for me after the holidays are over. The Center for Birds of Prey was not what I expected. It is on an absolutely gorgeous piece of property and was a delightful place to visit. The boys loved seeing all the birds and exploring the trails and the adults learned a lot about these creatures that I tend to take for granted.
The photo above is of a handler holding a baby bald eagle! It was super cool to see one up close. Apparently they are this color when they are young and they turn white as they molt. We were also treated to a flight show (where a gigantic owl flew soundlessly over our heads) and several other exhibits. Here are some photos from our day. We will definitely be back!
We had lunch at SeeWee Restaurant (no link attached since they don’t have a website), a local roadside dive. The seafood there is fantastic and they have some of the best chocolate cream pie in town! It’s a hole in the wall but the food and ambiance are legendary.
After all that fresh air, we got home and all took a Saturday afternoon nap! It was a really great day. Lots of good memories are created when you get out and do something different. Thanks to the CVB for letting us be Tourists in Our Own Town!
