When you’re the Mom of three boys…

I’ve shared before that my favorite Bible verse for raising young boys is Proverbs 14:4. It says, “Where there are no oxen the stall is clean, but much is to be gained by the strength of an ox.” I take this verse quite literally! My “stall” is rarely clean but I wouldn’t trade my three “oxen” for all the treasures of the world :-)

The hubby and I (along with some friends) took about 15 boys from PCA to see The LEGO Movie on Friday evening. After the movie we crashed in on the gracious folks at  Mellow Mushroom in Mount Pleasant.

I had convinced the boys to see “Frozen” last month and they still feel that I tricked them into seeing a movie about, not just one, but TWO princesses! To make up for it, I agreed to take the boys and friends to see The Lego Movie on opening night. It was a zoo! The place was packed with boys and more dads than usual. As soon as the movie started, we could tell it was the right call. The looks on their faces were a far cry from the stunned looks of disbelief (and betrayal) on their faces during the first 20 minutes of Frozen.

I tried to get into it. I really did. But, I have to say that I enjoyed Frozen a whole lot more than The Lego Movie. The boys, however, LOVED it.  It seems that no good deed goes unpunished as I am endlessly singing “Everything is Awesome” over and over (and over and over) in my head. Also, as the photo above shows, we will also be stepping on Legos for the next few weeks.

Aside from the annoying song, this is a sweet time in our lives. Our home is filled with the little voices (and the thundering footsteps) of  children who actually want to spend time with us. I’m sure these days are numbered. My two older boys can battle it out on the football field and then snuggle in at bedtime with their well-loved stuffed animals. They still loved to be prayed over, read to, and hugged. There is still a sweetness and innocence to them that I cherish. I know I will look back on these days with fondness (and most likely a sniffle or two).

I’ll  trade a clean home any day for one filled with love, laughter, and a whole lot of rambunctious fun.
