Birds of the Lowcountry

One of the best things about the Lowcountry is the abundance of birds in our area. Every morning we wake up to bird songs and it is very common to see herons, egrets and other beautiful waterfowl around the lake near our home. One of our favorite half-day trips is to the Center for Birds of Prey in Awendaw. Although we catch an occasional glimpse of red-tailed hawks, ospreys and bald eagles in the wild, it is very cool to see them up close. The work the center does with injured birds is pretty amazing to see and we LOVE to watch the flight demonstrations. It’s less than 30 minutes away and definitely worth the trip!
