When I say “dream home,” what comes to mind? Is it an open space for easy entertaining? Maybe a home in the country, away from all of the city noises or a penthouse suite in the heart of the city. Whatever your unique tastes may be, take a moment to write them down. Then, once you have a list, decide if each item is a “need” or a “want.” These two terms are very different, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t have both. Decide what it is most important to you and stick to it.
It can be easy to get distracted when you’re walking through a gorgeous home that’s perfectly staged and spotless, when you really should be thinking….”Where will my kids throw their soccer gear after school?….What’s the kitchen cabinet space like?…Is there enough space in the garage to fit my husband’s bottle cap collection?” Don’t get me wrong – daydreaming can be fun, but when it comes to house hunting, you know your needs the best, and it’s important to be realistic throughout the process. When you feel you are getting off track, your agent will direct you back to your list and evaluate your options. A good Realtor will use your list of “must-haves” and present you with properties that fit your needs within your budget. It should be a place where you and your family are able to relax at the end of a long day. Always stay true to what is important to you – after all, this is your future oasis!
