In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, I’m going green and featuring Pinckney’s Produce, a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program that thrives at bringing fresh fruits and vegetables to your table. Locally owned and operated by the Rest Park Farm in Beaufort, SC, this initiative has been “growing” since 2009. Though not a organic farm by definition, they do take utmost care to greatly eliminate the use of chemicals in their farming. After 100 years of experience, the West family knows a thing or two about cultivating the land and bringing the best possible produce to market.
Joining the CSA is easy! You choose a harvest season (either a 12 week or 4 week option) , select a delivery point near you (yes, they deliver as far north as Columbia!), and then decide what size share you’d like. They have options for families as well as single portions. Average weekly costs are very affordable and range from $23-48 per week, depending on how much you need. All payment is due up front along with the delivery fee, and then the veggies come like clockwork once a week, for the season you chose. Daniel Island’s drop-site is conveniently located at Laura Albert’s. Go to Pinckney’s Produce.com to learn more about joining their program!
Once it’s in the house, it has to get eaten because I hate good food going to waste. And the benefits are endless – not only do I get fresh vegetables grown locally but my family is more healthy and energetic and able to enjoy our beautiful “life in the lowcountry.”
