Today I’m featuring one of the oldest traditions on Daniel Island. When Daniel Island first started out (we’re talking before streetlights and I-526 on and off ramps), residents would get together on the first Friday of every month to relax and mingle with friends and meet new people who had moved to the island the month prior. This gathering became known as “Thank Goodness It’s First Friday” or TGIFF and was something residents looked forward to each month.
“It was a great way to meet your neighbors and develop friendships that we still enjoy today,” recalls Heather Platzer, who has been a long-time resident of Daniel Island. “Back then, we would meet in someone’s house each month. It created a sense of community within that first generation of island residents.”
This event continues to take place today and is held the first Friday of every month in the Daniel’s Landing Clubhouse (130 River Landing Drive) so residents have room to mingle. It’s still a great way to meet your neighbors and make new friends in a relaxed setting. Click here for more information.
So make this Friday YOUR first TGIFF. Bring a beverage of your choice and an hors d’oeuvres to share. Who knows – maybe you’ll make a new friend!
