Reflections After the South Carolina Storm…

As we take a step back from this weekend’s incredible rainfall, I can’t help but be thankful for the many clients who reached out to us, asking about our safety. The concern and prayers you shared reminded me that we have some of the best clients in the world!

Here on Daniel Island, we were very blessed not to experience widespread flooding. While some docks and trails were covered in water, no flood damage occurred in our neighborhoods. Daniel Island has some of the newest infrastructure in the area, and the excellent drainage system helped keep the unprecedented rainfall from building up. Buried power lines were also helpful in maintaining electricity. Again, we are so thankful that this was the case and understand how devastating it could have been otherwise.

Many areas of Charleston were inundated with flash floods and power outages, but we are thankful that our governor and state officials gave ample warning. There have however been several people who have been displaced by this storm and have lost everything. The upstate near Columbia saw quite a bit of devastation as well, due to several dams breaking along the Saluda River, pushing that water back towards Lake Murray. We are praying for those people and glad to see efforts like this one, being made to shelter them and get them back on their feet again. South Carolina is a state made of strong resilient people who not only stand calmly in the face of tragedy but also seek out ways to help their neighbors during the aftermath.

Thank you once again for your concern and prayers! We are safe and sound, and praying for the families that are facing the thoughts of rebuilding their lives again. We are all looking forward to getting back to the sunny days that are much more common here in the Lowcountry.
