Since I have so much catching up to do, I’m spending much of my weekend at work. I’m never one to make up lists but, as I sit here sorting through endless piles of paper, I’m dreaming of all the fun I could be having…
- Pork and Pearls – Hundreds of families and friends are expected at Pierce Park Pavilion on Saturday, February 26th from 3:00 – 6:00 pm for an afternoon filled with lively entertainment, great food and lots of camaraderie. This party — one part “swank” and the other part “down home” — will surely appeal to everyone’s appetite while helping out a great organization. Get ready to shag to the sounds of the “Shem Creek Boogie Band,” which will be playing a variety of beach music, R & B and some good old rock and roll. There will also be a kids’ zone featuring a climbing wall, jump castle and balloon artist. Additionally, plenty of door prizes and drawings will take place throughout the afternoon. This event benefits Windwood Farms, a safe haven for abused and neglected children.
- Brewvival – Yes. You read that correctly. Saturday, February 26th. This annual event for beer lovers is organized by the Charleston Beer Exchange and Coast Brewing Company. Participating breweries include Allagash, Avery, Bell’s, Brooklyn, the Bruery, Dogfish Head, Duck-Rabbit, Foothills Brewing, French Broad, Highland Brewing, New Holland, New Belgium, Ommegang, Oskar Blues, Palmetto Brewing, RJ Rockers, Rogue, Saint Somewhere, Shmaltz, Sierra Nevada, Southern Star, Southern Tier, Stone, Sweetwater, Terrapin, Thomas Creek, Victory, Westbrook, and Weyerbacher, among others. Food provided by Roti Rolls, Ted’s Butcherblock, D’Allesandro’s Pizza, and the Brunch Truck will provide good eats (some will even be prepared with beer as an ingredient). Musical acts include Gaslight Street, the Garage Cuban Band, and South Carolina Broadcasters. I just copied and pasted all that from the Charleston City Paper. You can read the full article here.
- Chefs’ Feast – Sunday, February 27th @ 6:00 pm. Black tie optional event. The 12th annual Chefs’ Feast Gala will help raise the much needed funds for Kids Cafe and Back- Pack Buddies (Lowcountry Foodbank initiatives). Led by Chef Robert Carter of Peninsula Grill, the Lowcountry’s most acclaimed chefs will once again join together to fight childhood hunger and celebrate an evening of exquisite food and quality entertainment.
- Gibbes Museum of Art – Free community day this Saturday! Admission is usually $9.
- Mardicrawl on Shem Creek – The seventh annual Mardi Crawl benefits the S.C. Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, It invites participants to stroll, stumble, or crawl their way between R.B.’s, Water’s Edge, Vickery’s, Shem Creek Bar and Grill, and back. Starting at Red’s Ice House, hosts from the Lowcountry Parrot Head Club will be inside each location to give away prizes and gifts to the participants as well as give them a chance to buy an extra raffle ticket. The Parrot Head Club was formed for all those in the Lowcountry of South Carolina who are interested in the music of Jimmy Buffett, a variety of social activities, and a chance to volunteer for local community and environmental causes. Participants receive an official Mardi-Crawl-on-Shem-Creek! T-shirt and souvenir koozie. Red’s Ice House will host an after-party starting at 7 p.m. Out of Knoxville, Tenn., rock/groove band Homemade Wine will perform a variety of tropical boogie, oldies, soul, shag, and blues at Red’s, rain or shine. - Family Time – Park, beach, bike ride, soccer — anything to take advantage of this beautiful weather! Or, I’d be happy just playing with Miles in our backyard (like in the photo above).
